Take That metro to the Stadium of Light

TAKE That fans planning their journey to the Stadium of Light for the concerts are being urged to take advantage of special travel arrangements.

Tens of thousands are expected to use public transport in and out of the city when Gary, Robbie and co launch Progress Live 2011 at the stadium on Friday.
Nexus, which owns and manages the Metro, is urging travellers to plan their journeys in a bid to prevent long delays and queues.
It is providing special DaySaver tickets on the days of the concerts – May 27 to May 31 – which it hopes will allow quicker and stress-free travel to and from the event.
Instead of passengers queuing for their tickets, they can order a special edition travel wristband online.
The wristbands allow passengers to travel across the Metro network to the Stadium of Light and St Peter’s stations hassle-free.
Tickets are available online for £4, £1.10 for under-16’s, at https://buytickets.nexus.org.uk/events/ until tomorrow.
DB Regio Tyne and Wear, which operates the Metro on behalf of Nexus, is also increasing the number of trains in service throughout the days of the concerts, with extra trains running after the event. The last train will leave the Stadium of Light and St Peter’s just before 1am.
Fans are being urged to leave their cars at home.
Richard McClean, managing director of DB Regio Tyne and Wear, said: “The travel wristband and extra trains should allow concert-goers to get to the event quickly and easily.
“We are expecting a large rise in passengers during the concert period as people choose the Metro to get to the event. As such, we want to ensure their journey remains as stress-free and prompt as possible.
“The provision of extra trains should help to alleviate large volumes of passengers boarding Metro trains at the same time and ensure a comfortable and efficient journey to the concert, which thousands of fans in the region are looking forward to.”
Director General of Nexus, Bernard Garner, said: “We are expecting a very busy four days as thousands of people opt for the convenience of Metro to get to the venue.
“The best thing to do is purchase a Metro DaySaver wristband in advance. They offer unlimited travel on the day of the event and take away the hassle of buying tickets on the day, when stations are expected to be busy.”
The eyes of the showbiz world will be on Sunderland next Friday, with the show expected to be the band’s most spectacular to date.
Cranes have been lifting segments of the stage into the Stadium of Light in recent days, although the theme of the show remains a closely-guarded secret.

What a great idea for sunderland. It's amazing how well organised other venues are travel-wise in comparison to wembley stadium. Its a bloody awful venue to get out of. The o2 is pretty good though, and Manchester is good too with their tram system. I wish we had something like that down this way.
